Funeral services for Zella Mae Solmonson, 87, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at United Methodist Church in Estherville. Rev. Lynn A. Potter will officiate the service.

Interment will take place in East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville.

Zella passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at her home in Estherville.

Zella Mae (Archer) Solmonson, the daughter of Ben and Cornelia (Montgomery) Archer, was born May 4, 1922, in Graettinger, Iowa.

She received her education in the Maple Hill school and graduated from Maple Hill High School. Zella also enjoyed playing basketball while in high school.

On Jan. 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ernest Solmonson in Evanston, Ill. The couple made their home in Estherville and Zella worked for McAdams Clothing and Kraft Music. Zella enjoyed gardening, crocheting, her fall trips to the Mississippi River and spending time at Big Spirit Lake. Most important was spending time with her children, grandchildren and their families.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, UMW and VFW Auxiliary in Estherville.

Left to cherish Zella's memory are her husband, Ernest of Estherville; son, Dennis Solmonson and his wife, Renea of Lisbon, Iowa; two grandchildren: Heather Hays and her husband, Todd of Spirit Lake, and Ryan Johnson and his wife, Anne of Spencer; six great-grandchildren: Nicolas, Parker and Hadley Hays, and Alexa, Evan and Dylan Johnson; son-in-law, Wayne Johnson of Wahpeton, Iowa.; siblings: Fern Archer, Norma Swalve and her husband, Otto, and Milton "Doc" Archer and his wife, Sharon, all of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Johnson; two brothers: Floyd and Fay; three sisters: Verge, Evelyn and Lila; and her parents.
