Funeral services for Mr. Donald Sorensen, 74, of Spencer, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Wendy Van Tassell will officiate the service.

Mr. Sorensen passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Spencer Hospital.

Donald Eugene Sorensen, the son of Fred and Frances Sorensen, was born on Sept. 4, 1935 in Superior, Iowa. After graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1952, he entered the United States Air Force where he honorably served his country until September 1974.

In April of 1958, he was married to Jacqueline R. O'Hearn and had four children: Duane of Spencer, Jane of Ankeny, Dawn of San Antonio, Texas and Jon also of Ankeny.

Donald enjoyed numerous outside activities. As long as the sun was shining he found any opportunity to enjoy the outside. Donald spent many years volunteering many man hours at the Spencer Little League. Also, through the years, was employed by the Clay County Sheriff's Office, State of Iowa and Spencer Community Schools.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Rhonda and Betty; best friend and special brother-in-law, Virgil Hoffman of Milford.

He is survived by his children: Duane, Jane Carrington, Dawn Haberthur and her husband, Chuck, and Jonathan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends: Scott, Julie and Matthew Behrens; two sisters: Avis Hoffman of Milford and Carole Rasmussen of Omaha, Neb.; three brothers: Verland Sorensen of Spirit Lake, George Sorensen of Odem, Texas, and Larry Sorensen of Storm Lake; other relatives and friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
