The Spencer Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched Friday afternoon to the Spencer Family YMCA for a gas leak on the roof. According to Brian Kretz, operation supervisor for the local Black Hills Energy office, the weight of a combination of snow and ice on the roof resulted in a fitting to break on the fuel line. No gas escaped into the building because it was vented from the roof. Black Hills shut off the gas to the main service meter and the building was evacuated to Trinity Lutheran Church. There were no injuries or damage reported. The Spencer Fire and Rescue Department was assisted at the scene by the Spencer Police Department, Clay County Emergency Management, Black Hills Energy and YMCA staff.
