Local Tea Party Patriots are calling for the area citizenry to "get informed and get involved." And they are offering a way to do it.
Plans for two voter forum opportunities with a pair of the GOP gubernatorial candidates have been announced by the Tea Party Patriots, organizers of the event.
The first forum will feature Sioux City businessman and 2008 Lt. Governor candidate Bob Vander Plaats at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12. The second forum will bring former state representative and Speaker of the Iowa House Christopher Rants to Spencer at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. Both forums will take place at the Clay County Regional Events Center. Audience questions will be taken after the speech.
"With the changing political climate and more and more Americans wanting to be more involved in the political process, the Tea Party Patriots are holding the Informed Voter Forums to give area citizens the opportunity to meet candidates first hand," explained Kris Thiessen, one of the event organizers.
"Whether you have been getting involved by researching the news, interacting in day-to-day dialogue, registering to vote for the first time or joining a grassroots or political action group, getting involved is a great privilege that we have in this country. Now, involvement is good, but the best kind of involved voter is an informed voter," said Josh Davenport, who is also involved with the forum.
Thiessen said, "Initially we will be bringing in candidates vying for the spot to run for governor on the GOP ticket. At this time there is not a candidate contesting Governor Culver's spot on the DNC ticket. There also is not an Independent candidate. Our goal is to help you get the information you will need before the primary."
Iowa's primary, where the political parties vote who will run for office on their ticket, will be held Tuesday, June 8. Under State law, a candidate in the primary must receive at least 35 percent of the vote to win a party's nomination. If no candidate receives 35 percent in the primary, the nominee is chosen by the State Convention of the party.
Tea Party Patriots have also made attempts to add GOP gubernatorial hopefuls, ex-Governor Terry E. Branstad and Rep. Rob Roberts to the series, but at this time have not received a response from either of these candidates.
"With changes occurring in our nation's political and social scenes like we have never seen in our lifetime, the 2010 elections should not only be interesting but monumental," said Josh Davenport, another person involved with the forum. "Many, for the first time, are getting involved in politics like never before. And why not? We are a government 'of the people, by the people, for the people.'"
The doors will open at 6 p.m. for each scheduled forum, with speakers starting at 6:30. A $1 donation is requested from attendees to help defray the expense of hosting these forums.

Thank you Kris and Josh for getting this organized. Please feel welcome to visit "Clay County Republicans" on facebook. Thanks again, good luck, and see you there.
I thought Tbaggers weren't party specific and in fact promoted the overthrow of OUR gov't, tyranny.
Guess they lie when they say it isn't about party lines. But then any thinking person figured that out long ago.
Teabaggers, not party specific? Yeah right... if they weren't republican, they surely wouldn't get the coverage this news outlet provides.
Seriously if it was up to these proud folks, Palin would run this show. Now if that doesn't send a chill, what does?
Remember the good old days when you could hold a sign and scream on Grand Avenue without a parka, ski mask, gloves, scarf, and electric socks?
~sigh~ Those were the days...
I'll be there if Glenn Beck shows up. I love everything he has to say and hope plans on running in 2012 to overthrow this socialist climate we're presently living in.
I guess I don't get the underlying premise of the tea party "patriots". The original tea party was to protest taxation without representation. These people have representation, even though their particular candidate may not have won the election.
My issue with the tea party group is not necessarily with their message but with the herds of bandwagon folks who have jumped aboard without any knowledge of the issues whatsoever. But I suppose that can be said for any political group.
I think I'll attend one of there meetings and see what they say and not assume what some are saying to be true. Allot of false info out there and I see in the news here that there looking for other party's to host. Assuming is for people who are not or don't want to be informed. Thank you all for giving me a push into the unknown to seek the truth for myself. Anyone else here brave enough to take a look for themselves?
Oh my, I am surprised on what I am seeing. How many are really aware of what is going on in our country. I belong to two tea party groups and the Spencer one is one of them. We support true conservatives no matter what party they are from. What everyone needs to do is attend these events and ask some tough questions. May I also suggesting reading the book The 5000 Year Leap. We need to get back to the Constitution and Rule of law; both at the Federal and State levels.
This sounds more like 'Tea Party Express' than the original 'Tea Party Patriots'. Check this out. What do you think?
http://www.desertdispatch.com/opinion/to...
Its Tea Party, not teabaggers as helped_myself, and ADAMHARRIS said. But using that term tells me just how far left they are leaning. But then any thinking person figured that out long ago.
So the Tea Party Patriots can't have a GOP candidate for Governor come and speak, what about an Independent? Oh that's right, I forgot, they are not politically correct. Its to bad no Democrat is challenging Culver, then we could have him or her come and speak, and put to rest the silly idea that we are on the GOP or Sara Palin's pay roll.
Hey Lee51, The Tea Party Patriots here in Spencer have no ties to the national thing. We raise our own funds locally, and do our own policy formation on a local level.Come to one of our meetings and see for yourself. Not that I expect to see you show up,your Web page link tells me all I need to know about were you are coming from.
Funny, the raving folks the street look like the same as other tea parties in other cities. I think I even see the same signs.
It's smart not to affiliate officially with the "national thing" but why not be creative and come up with your own name then?
That would really probably do you well, as a majority of the coverage on these tea parties have made it a mockery.
For those wondering what the average tea party is like, I would look around youtube... there's comedy to be had.
As an Independent candidate for Iowa House, District 8, I can assure everyone that the Spencer Tea Party Patriots will support any candidate that meets their ideals, regardless of party (or non party) affiliation.
Hosting a candidate forum does not mean that the group endorses that specific candidate, but rather, allows voters to meet and question them.

Being a member of the regional Tea Party patriots, I can assure people that of our 1000+ membership, we may have a few people who align themselves with the GOP. Our platform is to support any candidate, of any party, or independent, as long as they are conservative in nature, and support the constitution of the UNITED STATES, and the principles of limited Government. It should be apparent that under the Bush & Obama administrations, big Government, Regulations, and huge spending, have all but destroyed our Nation.
History proves that most Nations die from within, not from foreign enemy's!
The name was voted on from suggestions of people who attended the first meeting of the group after the Tea Party on the court house square on April 15 of last year, with out the knowledge of others who came up with the Tea Party Patriots name.As for your other comments ADAM, you call them comedy and mockery,I call them civil dissent and first amendment free speech. Also the left can protest on the street, and its OK but the right can't? The usual double standard.
You won't see me in the streets... nothing is accomplished there, other than a personal false feeling that you did something. So I don't see the double standard you are referring to.
In actuality, I see your efforts as misguided energy... kindof like the guy that stands on the corner yelling biblical verses, do you really think he's bringing people to religion, or driving them away?
I'm just putting my opinion in the hat, you're more than welcome to disagree... that's the great thing about this country.
As far as the comedy comment goes, I absolutely have had laughs out of some tea party coverage, and the folks that are attending.
Example:

After seeing helped_myself and ADAMHARRIS'S attitude's and personal attacks on the teaparty group I'm now convinced even more that they are misleading everyone here. Shameful attack from someone that hides on the net. Most adults conduct themselves in a civil manner and don't get personal. After seeing what the Independent said about them they stand tall, proud and honest in my book. He even came forward to defended this group. I guess that tells the rest of us who is actually spreading the hate and lies here.
Google tea party conspiracy...actually started by grandson of liberal founder of Butternut Coffee. Intended to split the republican party and insure control of country by the middle southeasterners.
bauerly are you serious? I said outright I was stating my personal opinion, that really doesn't indicate that I'm by any means trying to mislead anyone.
I guess I don't see anywhere that someone wasn't civil, nor do I see a "shameful attack"... or lies for that matter.
And tell me, who is "hiding" on the net? The person with a full (and true) name, or someone with a handle like bauerly?
Enough said, I'll not state my opinion in this handy comment field if it might hurt someone's e-feelings.
Hey Adam, you stepped in it this time. Bauerly is the guys last name. It is not made up like mine(although I do own a corvair95, not that you know what it is).So you made a shameful attack on Bauerly. but it's a free country and you can say what you want.
It's not an opinion when you call these folks teabaggers it a outright insult. Again you don't get your facts before making statements. Define a tebagger ADAMHARRIS and tell me what it means. Rather than get more misinformation I'll do it for you. It has multiple meanings. SEE http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.ph... If that isn't being personal, hateful and shameful I'll eat my socks. Yes my name is Bauerly so there again misinformation. So I guess your posts are full of misleading, hateful and shameful attacks. I research things before inserting my foot in my mouth. Shame on you for assuming and not researching . You owe these folks an apology at the least.
First of all, you guys that maligned "Tea Party Patriots" by calling them an off coloured word referring to a sexual act ought to have your fingers washed out with soap. An apology would be in good form.
corvair95: After reading the present posts I believe your group has good intentions. But there seems to be a lot of confusion about the name you chose. I can't believe you chose it with a room full of people and not one person Googled it to see if it was in use. Not to mention, those guys you refer to as "the national thing" are a corporation and they can sue you for anything you might say. You should burn your stationary (uhhm recycle your stationary) and find a new name w/o conflicts. Rule #1 in business: Cover Thy Butt. Well, It's not my problem.
Also I think you took a thinly disguised shot at me. I quote.
"Not that I expect to see you show up,your Web page link tells me all I need to know about were you are coming from."
For shame. I've never said anything bad about you have I? As a matter of fact the post you refer to on 10Jan2010 was in the form of a question! I wasn't expressing any opinion at all. I was calling attention to the name conflict. You were right about one thing though. I won't be attending the meeting but not for the reason you ASS-U-MEd. The reason I won't be there is because I'm a home-bound Disabled American Veteran and I don't go much of anywhere. When I enlisted I took an oath;
I, (Lee51), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
I don't remember ever being released from that oath. I still take it seriously. Especially the foreign and domestic part. I dearly love this country and the constitution and I bet my life on it for the 681 days I spent in South East Asia. But you must know all this. You got it from my post.
I still try to do my part by being an activist.
I now belong to a group "PilotsFor911Truth"
www.Pilotsfor911truth.org
This is our publicly stated goal.
Pilots for 9/11 Truth is an organization of aviation professionals and pilots throughout the globe who have gathered together for one purpose. We are committed to seeking the truth surrounding the events of the 11th of September 2001. Our main focus concentrates on the four flights, maneuvers performed and the reported pilots. We do not offer theory or point blame at this point in time. However, we are focused on determining the truth of that fateful day based on solid data and facts -- since 9/11/2001 is the catalyst for many of the events shaping our world today -- and the United States Government doesn't seem to be very forthcoming with answers or facts..... Thank you for taking the time to inform yourself.

We have 2,773 registered members and have made 115,190 posts as of today. It's amazing how much research all those people can do.
It's not easy belonging to this group. You have to do your homework. No guessing, no assumptions, no conjecture. And if you do, you'll hear about it. The sorry truth is, it doesn't matter which party gets elected. There are other forces at work. Are you too naive to believe the very richest people in the world don't want more power? So you are hereby cordially invited to my meeting! As for your meeting, record it and I'll meet with you to listen to it.
Enough said. Let's stop the sniping and find the truth. I think we are seeing the tip of a very large iceberg. Want to study some things that are trying to negate our political system entirely? Here's a few: Council on Foreign Relations -North American Union -New World Order -The Bilderbergs -International Monitary Fund -Trilateral Commission -The Federal Reserve System, and last but not least, Infragard. Infragard is the FBI recruiting civilians to inform on other people. It's true. Right here: www.infragard.net
First off, yet me thank you for your service to our county, Lee51. Sounds like you have paid dearly and made great sacrifices for our country.
As for the group name, you have assumed we could Google it, but it was chosen at the shelter house in the park in Everly, no computers or wifi access. After having T-shirts made with the name tea party patriots for the Spencer flag fest parade,we found out that a man in Kansas had trademarked the name tea party patriots. we stopped using those shirts,Designed a new logo with the name tea party patriots that we trademarked. It must bug you a lot I guess but like you said its not your business.
As for your not being ABLE to come, How in the Hell was I supposed to know that?
These posts were my first and now to be my last, all this has accomplished is to raise my blood pressure. I've got better ways to spend my time.
If you think your way can change things have at it.
corvair95: Sorry we ruffled each others feathers. I just didn't want anybody assuming why I wouldn't be at that meeting. So, call me some icky names or whatever it takes to get back on the wagon and let's get back to the business at hand. Everybody's opinion is important here. I think if I've learned anything here it is to follow the rules of the forum. This is the reason they are there. So let's shake hands and get back to it, ok? What do you think of Ron Paul?
Lee51 Check out the Oath Keepers site. I'm a member there. http://www.oathkeepers.org/
Corvair95, you stated "Its to bad no Democrat is challenging Culver, then we could have him or her come and speak, and put to rest the silly idea that we are on the GOP or Sara Palin's pay roll.". Why does Culver need a democratic opponent to be invited to speak by the TPP? He is running for the office of governor, and if you truly are not affiliated with any particular party, then shouldn't he be invited as well?
bauerly: I took a peek at your site. I didn't delve deeply but "Orders I will Not Obey #6,7 caught my attention. I Googled the FEMA consentration camp topic and immediately felt as though I had entered a fringe area. There was Glen Beck and Popular Mechanics ready to debunk the purpose of these fenced in areas. Which they did easily. After all we have fenced in areas around here that have electric fences, buildings with restricted access, turn stiles, and the posibility of the occupants being hauled off to slaughter. They're called farms yards. If FEMA did that they would be locking up the people who do the work and make the money. That's why the common citizen has so much power. If we are all implanted with RFIDs it won't be because they make us, it will be because we demand it for our own safety. In my opinion we have time before that happens. I like staying close to the scientific method. Math, chemistry, logic, engineering, don't lie and can't be argued with. My concern for now is who wins in Massachusetts on Tues. It's crucial because it can give filibuster power to the GOP. Back to the topic: It's getting late now but if the Tea Party Patriots (of Spencer) even have a preference, what would you like to see happen on Tues in Massachusetts? And would any opinion be because of Obama in general or just the health care bill?
