Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Langenfeld, 82, of Spencer, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. William Schreiber will officiate the service.
Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the family present from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Rosary and Vigil services will begin Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Earling.
Mrs. Langenfeld passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2009, at home in Spencer.
Helen I. Langenfeld, the daughter of William and Clara (Windeshausen) Bruck, was born July 11, 1927, in Portsmouth, Ia. Her childhood years were spent in Harlan, where she received her education, graduating from Harlan High School.
Helen married Julius (Dewey) Langenfeld on Sept. 24, 1946, in Harlan, Ia. Following their marriage, they lived in Earling, Ia., until 1960, when they moved to Spencer. Helen worked as an Assembly Operator at National of Spencer, as well as Super Valu and Pamida before her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, where she was active with the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society. She also cooked for Sacred Heart Schools. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by parents; one son, Duane; her husband, Julius (Dewey) on Jan. 2, 1990; and six brothers; one sister; and four infant sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Kent and his wife, Cindy Langenfeld of Peterson, Ia.; three daughters: Kay Duley and her husband, Kim of Littleton, Colo., Jean Huss and her husband, Mick of Grimes, Ia. and Jeri Langenfeld of Spencer, Ia.; five grandchildren; one sister, Clara Carroll of Harlan, Ia.; other relatives and many friends.
