Funeral services for Mrs. Leva Franker, 91, of Spencer, formerly of Royal, will be held a 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. William Schreiber will officiate the service.
Visitation will take place after 1 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Interment will take place at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer at a later date.
Mrs. Franker passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Leva Maureen Franker was born in rural Royal, Ia. on Feb. 7, 1918, to Mauritz D. and Hazel (Keene) Beck. Leva was an only child. Leva attended school in Chillicothe, Mo., and earned her teaching certificate after which she taught for one year.
Leva married Gail E. Franker on Aug. 3, 1938. The two resided in the Royal community where they farmed and raised their family. In addition to being a homemaker, Leva was a 4-H Leader and substitute bus driver. Leva moved from the Royal family farm to Spencer in 2001. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeye's and Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed game shows.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles and Auxiliary were an integral part of Leva's life. She served as Iowa State Eagle Auxiliary President in 1958-59. In 1997, she researched and compiled a history of the Iowa State Auxiliary and continued to update supplements to this each year.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and infant son, David.
She is survived by her four children: Gayleen Means, Spencer, Sandra Beving (Darrell), Dickens, Sherry Blomberg (Larry), Urbandale, and Dan Franker (Linda), Urbandale. As well; she is survived by 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; other extended family and numerous friends.
