Funeral services for Arnold E. Kruse, 79, of Royal, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Roger Maize will officiate the 11 a.m. service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Mr. Kruise passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Arnold Everett Kruse, the son of Everett and Wilhelmina Haberman Kruse, was born in Clay Township, Royal, Iowa, on Sept. 3, 1930. Arnold was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal. He received his early education in country schools and later graduated from the Royal High School in 1948. Following his schooling, Arnold enlisted with the United States Army where he served in Europe during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954.

Arnold married Shirley DeMars on Feb. 18, 1951, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm southwest of Royal, where Arnold farmed until his retirement in 2001. Arnold's vocational passion was farming, so it was of great interest to him to have been able to travel to Bahia, Brazil, where he had the opportunity to participate in a South American soybean harvest with his grandson.

Arnold was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. He served nine years on the Farmer's Co-op Elevator Board and in his spare time, Arnold's special interests included collecting toy farm machinery and kite flying. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
