Iowa singer/songwriter Chad Elliott will perform live at the Clay County Regional Events Center on Saturday, Nov. 28, to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Seasons Center and Oak Haven.
The Seasons Center's mission is "empowering individuals and communities for success through every season of life." The Seasons Center, located in Spencer, provides services such as crisis intervention, domestic abuse intervention, community support and much more.
A dinner catered by Cabernet Catering will be held before the show beginning at 6 p.m. Then Jesse Dagel will perform an opening act before Elliott takes the stage. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
"I'm honored to be asked to play for this event. The Seasons Center does so much positive work in northwest Iowa, and I'm happy to be a part of their 50th anniversary. I'm also excited to play in Spencer again. My Spencer CD Release had a great turnout so I'm hoping to see familiar faces in the audience. Anyone who didn't get the new album should definitely come to the show," Elliott said.
Elliott recently released a new album titled, "Redemption Man." He worked with producer Bo Ramsey (Lucinda Williams, Greg Brown) to create the blends of blues, roots and folk on this new album. Ramsey is heard on several of the tracks, adding his smooth guitar skills to Elliott's original music.
Also on the album are drummer Steve Hayes and bass player Jon Penner, plus Pieta Brown adding her vocals and keyboard. The combination of these skilled musicians brings Elliott's music to a new level.
"I'm so honored to play with this group of musicians. They have all played together before, so I was the outsider at first. However, when I counted off the first song in the studio, we came in together, and there was an immediate cohesive feeling. They really supported and added strength to the songs I brought in," Elliott said.
Elliott is the winner of the 2009 Woody Guthrie Festival songwriting contest, which gave him the opportunity to perform during the June festival. Elliott was also recently recognized as a 2008 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalist. He was one of 32 finalists, chosen from 800 applicants, who competed during the 2008 Kerrville Folk Festival.
After winning FolkAlley.com's Open Mic Finals with his song "Bluebird Creek," songwriter Chad Elliott earned a spot on stage with Odetta. Odetta is just one on a long list of prolific folk artists he has shared the stage with including Tom Paxton, Loudon Wainwright III, Eric Taylor, Buddy Mondlock, Dan Zanes, R.L. Burnside and Storyhill. Also, Elliott's song, "How's the Weather?" was chosen out of 300,000 folk songs as an award nominee for the Top 20 New Folk Songs on Just Plain Folks.
Above all the Iowa songwriter's music slips messages about life as he has experienced it through living with homeless, love, divorce, fatherhood and discovering inspiration in a modern world through strong lyrics and guitar.
