Mr. Harries was born Dec. 27, 1922, the son of the late Alvenia Sievers Harries and the late Henry Harries in Mason City, Ill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII and worked for 38 years at Northern National Gas Company as a foreman in Spencer. He later worked at Rowan Regional Medical Center as a security guard and at Lyerly Funeral Home as a greeter. Bill was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Leona Colby Harries on Jan. 4, 1986; daughter, Deborah Harries; and a granddaughter, Jessica Ann Harries.
Survivors include his dear friend, Peggy Hooper of Salisbury; son, Mark L. Harries of Champaign, Ill.; sister-in-law, Irene Harries of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren: Allen Jackson, Khasasha Jackson, William George Harries and Weston Richard Harries.
Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Old Historic Salisbury National Cemetery conducted by Rev. James King with graveside rites conducted by Rowan County Honor Guard.
The family will gather at 6 p.m. for a church sponsored meal.
Memorial Service: 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Christ United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. James King. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
