Marie E. Woodrich, 96, of Spencer, Ia., and formerly of Waverly, Ia., died on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Marie was born on March 28, 1913, in Scotland, S.D., the daughter of Rev. George and Marie (Raab) Zink. Marie attended school in Scotland and graduated from Scotland High School. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly and received her teaching certificate. She then returned to Scotland, S.D., and taught for a few years. She received her Bachelor's Degree while attending school in Chicago, Ill. Marie received her Master's Degree of Social Work from the University of Minnesota. She worked at Bremwood in Waverly. She was a social worker within the Iowa Prison System for a number of years, something she continued to do after her retirement. Marie was united in marriage to Glen Woodrich in 1961. Following their marriage they served in the Lutheran churches at Melvin, Ia., and later Pomeroy, Ia. Following their retirement they moved to an acreage north of Waverly.

She enjoyed spending time with Glen in their large garden. They grew large amounts of fruits and vegetables that they were always giving to others. She was also fond of music and loved to sing.

Marie is survived by one daughter, Charin Brockshus and her husband, Delmar of Spencer, Ia.; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Woodrich of Wausau, Wis.; six grandchildren and their spouses: Noya (Luis) Landa of Minneapolis, Minn., Chi (Karen) Woodrich of Champaign, Ill., Todd (Barb) Brockshus of Spencer, Ia., Ross (Beth) Brockshus of Spencer, Ia., and Jill (Mark) Hulshof of Sioux Center, Ia.; 11 great-grandchildren: Tauri Landa, David Brockshus, Aaron Brockshus, Hannah Brockshus, Isaac Louis Brockshus, Issac Robert Brockshus, Samuel Brockshus, Cloe Brockshus, Kasey Hulshof, Ty Hulshof and Reid Hulshof.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Glen Woodrich; her son, George Woodrich; and three sisters: Martha Woodrich, Louise Mueller and Henrietta Zink.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, Ia. Visitation will be held on Monday for one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Bremwood in Waverly, Ia. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly is assisting the family.
