Jane Schumann, 69, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the Spencer Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Cecil Friedmann will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of Northwest Iowa or Abben Cancer Center.
Marianne Fuchsen is the organist and Margaret Molitor is the soloist.
Pallbearers will be: Eldren Holstad, Larry Lewis, Jim Coffey, Norm Pixler, Marty Juhl and Denny Manley.
Jane Marie Schumann, the daughter of Ralph and Hannah (Erpelding) Schacherer, was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Estherville. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, where she received her education, graduating from Estherville High School. She continued her education at Stewart's College of Cosmetology in Sioux City, Iowa.
Jane married John Elsenbast on Dec. 1, 1962, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Estherville. John and Jane adopted four children while living on their family farm in Graettinger. They then moved to Spencer where Jane owned and operated Mane Salon. She later opened the Outer Limits Roller Rink. Jane married Marvin Schumann Aug. 28, 1981, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Following their marriage she worked at Cutty's in sales and for the past 10 years worked for Polaris Industries.
Jane was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Moose Family Center where she attained College of Regents and volunteered in many capacities. Jane also enjoyed golfing, cooking, camping, bowling, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Elsenbast; and infant sister, Judy.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marv; four children: Marie Elsenbast of Santa Rosa, Calif., Susan Sanow, of Spencer, Ralph Elsenbast of Houston, Texas, and Robert (Lora) Elsenbast of Fostoria; three grandchildren: Alexa Sanow, Gracy, and Cade Elsenbast; two stepchildren: Brad Schumann of Des Moines, and Shell (Dave) Littlepage of Phoenix, Ariz.; two stepgrandchildren: Jordan and Jenifer Littlepage; four sisters: Darlene "Tootie" Lair of Estherville, Marion Mortenson of Estherville, Marge Dalen, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Thelma "Obbie" (Dean) Brobst, of Graettinger; and a brother, Jerry Schacherer of Wallingford, Iowa.
