Donald Harry Woodin was born Jan. 11, 1928, to Raymond and Evelyn Woodin on
a farm west of Ware, IA. As a boy, Don loved the outdoors and trapped,
hunted, and fished. He went to school in Ware and played basketball and
baseball. He graduated from Ware High School in 1946 and started farming.
On March 13, 1949, Don married Gretchen Hawley at the First Christian Church
in Laurens. They had two sons, Dan Lee and David Charles Ray. This year
marked Don and Gretchen's sixtieth wedding anniversary. For most of Don's
life, he listed his three hobbies as farming, farming, and of course,
farming. In his later life, Don learned to play golf. He and Gretchen
enjoyed playing in couples tournaments. Fishing became a lasting hobby that
Don loved until the end. Don was well satisfied with what he had
accomplished. During the past year, Don said to Gretchen, "We did well
together living on the land. I think God's taken a liking to me."
