Jose Ramon De Leon Tavarez, 23, Paullina, was charged with driving while suspended and failure to file SR-22 insurance at 8:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the 180th Avenue of B-40 after a Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation. Hw was transported to the Clay County Jail and held on a $300 bond.
Robert William Clark, 35, Royal, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Buena Vista County on the charge of theft fifth degree on Tuesday, Sept. 15. He was released on bond.
Bradly John Hutchinson, 44, Corralville, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on Tuesday, Sept. 15. He was held in the Clay County Jail to appear before a magistrate.
Bonnie Anderson, 46, Spencer, was charged with domestic abuse assault at 12:23 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the 300 block of East Fourth Street. She was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and turned over to the Clay County jailer.
Gary Stinson, 27, Spencer, was charged with OWI second offense, driving under suspension and possession drug paraphernalia at 12:46 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, in the 10 block of East Eighth Street. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and turned over to the Clay County jailer.
Katie Wescott, 24, Spencer, was charged with OWI first offense at 2:27 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the 800 block of Grand Avenue. She was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and turned over to the Clay County jailer.
Eric Roberts, 31, Spencer, was charged with OWI at 10:21 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in the 500 block of 11th Street Southwest. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and turned over to the Clay County jailer.
Jeffery Kies, 332, Sioux Rapids, was charged with OWI second offense and driving while revoked at 10:48 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in the 4200 block of Highway Boulevard. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and turned over to the Clay County jailer.
Francisco Rene Grajales-Morales, 34, Spencer, was charged with public intoxication at 9:47 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in the 100 block of West First Street. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and turned over to the Clay County jailer.
Joshua Hersleff, 28, Spencer, was arrested at his residence on two warrants from Dickinson County on the charge of failure to appear at 5:57 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department and later transported to Dickinson County.
Joe Engelkes, 22, Hartley, was arrested on two Clay County warrants on a charge of assault causing serious injury and violation of probation for the original charge of burglary third degree and aiding and abetting at 9:02 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in the 400 block of First Avenue West. He is being held in the Clay County Jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
Two juveniles were cited and released for underage drinking at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, in the 1900 block of Highway 18 after the Spencer Communications Center was advised of a possible underage drinking party. When deputies arrived they made contact with all subjects at the residence and confirmed that several of them had been drinking. Some of the subjects who had been drinking fled the residence as the deputies arrived.
Johnathon Koenig, 21, Webb, was charged with driving while suspended at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Church Street and Second Avenue, Webb, after a Clay County deputy stopped him. He was transported to the Clay County Jail and held on a $300 bond. He was also cited for no insurance and operating an ATV on the highway.
Travis Sokolowski, 22, Dickens, was charged with OWI first offense at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, in the 200 block of Main Street, Dickens, after being stopped on his ATV by a Clay County deputy. He was transported to the Clay County Jail and held to appear before a magistrate.
Ryan Peters, 29, Peterson, was charged with domestic abuse assault-enhanced-serious at 8:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Oak Street, Peterson. He was transported to the Clay County Jail and held to appear before a magistrate.
Jeffery Holmich, 29, Cherokee, was charged with driving under suspension at 4:04 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the 4900 block of Highway 71 after a Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop with having prior knowledge that Holmich had a suspended driver's license. He was transported to the Clay County Jail and later released on a $300 cash or surety bond.
Chase Hagedorn, 19, Dickens, was arrested on a warrant for the original charge of possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Top Grade Inc. He was transported to the Clay County Jail and later released on a $300 cash or surety bond.
Accident
At approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, the Spencer Communications Center received a phone call from a resident in the 3000 block of 180th Avenue stating that someone had driven through his cornfield and fence on the previous evening. After an investigation a Clay County deputy later located the owner and suspected driver of the vehicle. Bernard Bedsaul, 69, Ocheyedan, said that he was driving a 2003 Dodge Durango and had blacked out and lost control of his vehicle. He stated the vehicle had entered the east ditch and then into a cornfield. The vehicle then turned around and drove back through the east ditch, over the road, and into the west ditch where it came to a stop. Bedsaul advised the deputy that a passerby came and towed his vehicle out of the ditch and then to a dealership in Spirit Lake. A citation was issued for failure to maintain control and striking a fixture upon the highway. Damage to the Durango was estimated at $6,000.
A Clay County deputy was dispatched to the north curve on B-17 at 290th Avenue on a report of a one-vehicle rollover at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. Upon arrival, Lee Waggoner Hernandez, 22, Phoenix, Ariz., driving a 1998 Buick Riviera told the attending deputy that a deer had run out in front of him and he had swerved to miss it and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the south ditch rear end first and then rolled onto the passenger side. No injury was reported. The Buick sustained approximately $3,000 in damage.
Deb Engel, 49, Spencer, was traveling southbound on Highway 71 in a 1996 Dodge Stratus at approximately 5:38 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, when Norma Jean Miller, 62, Rossie, entered the roadway in a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville and collided with Engel. No injuries were reported. Miller was given a citation for failure to yield upon entering a through roadway. No dollar estimate on damages were given.
Incidents
Two burglaries were reported at businesses in the 300 block of 10th Street Southwest at 7:10 a.m. Friday, August 28. An undetermined amount of cash was taken at both.
