Memorial services for Mrs. Ethel Dean, 84, of Spencer, formerly of Wheatland, will be held at 4 p.m. today at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wheatland. Rev. Wendy Van Tassell will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Private burial will take place at a later date.
Mrs. Dean passed away at home in Spencer on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009.
Ethel Davis was born on June 2, 1926, at her family's home in Lebanon, Mo. As an adult, she moved to the Quad Cities. She gave birth to son Ronnie in 1953 and son Roger in 1958. On May 8, 1959, she married William "Bill" Dean in East Moline, and in 1964 son Curtis was born. In 1982 after 23 years of marriage, she lost her husband after a bout with cancer. She continued to live in Clinton County until the late 1990s when she moved to Spencer to be near son Curtis and family.
Ethel will be remembered for her love of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid fisherman who went fishing with her grandson Jordan just a few weeks ago.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; husband William, and son Ronnie.
Ethel is survived by sons: Roger Dean and wife, Margie of Grand Mound, and Curtis Dean and wife, Rhonda of Spencer; grandchildren: Elias Dean, Jamie Erps, Jessica Dean, Christopher Dean, Jordan Dean, Bailey Dean, Ronnie Lee Dean and Rhonda Dean; three great-grandchildren.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
