Alvin 'Al' Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Alvin "Al" Johnson, 81 of Spencer, were held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. William Schreiber officiated the service.
Interment took place in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
Mr. Johnson passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.
T.J, Johnson and Megan Johnson were soloists, and Marianne Fuchsen was the organist.
Pallbearers were Bill Craig, Denny Linn, Joe Froiland, Tom Thompson, Chad Christensen and Mark Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Mak Kloewer, Keegan Kloewer, Robert Johnson, Chris Gustoff, Jackson O'Hara and Thomas O'Hara.
Alvin Arthur Johnson, was born on Nov. 5, 1927, to Art and Etta Miller Johnson. Al was baptized into the Catholic faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He attended Lake Ce. After graduating he worked for various businesses until opening his own business in 1963, Johnson Supply Company where he was active in the business until 1998. Al was a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge and the Antique Car Club of Iowa. He had a passion for his antique cars and tractors for many years and enjoyed driving them in various parades and weddings.
Al was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Schany on June 5, 1950.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Alvin Johnson; one brother, Donald Johnson; and twin sisters: Anna Thompson and Ina Goff.
Al is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons: Joseph Johnson of Spencer, and Bradford Johnson and his wife, Sara of Spencer; two daughters: Rochelle O'Hara and her husband, Robert of Spencer, and Julie Kloewer of Spencer; eight grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials in memory of Alvin Johnson.
