All three occupants were flown from Spencer by emergency helicopter following a head-on collision Friday morning along U.S. Highway 71.

Emergency crews were called out at about 11:15 a.m. to the location. Upon arrival, deputies determined a 2003 Jeep, driven by 32-year-old Jacqueline Larson of Milford, was southbound and crossed the center line.

The Jeep was struck in the northbound lane by a 1989 Chevy truck driven by 33-year-old Savador Garcia of Cherokee.

The impact caused undetermined injuries to both drivers and a passenger in the truck, Garcia's wife, Alejandrina.

Both vehicles are considered a total loss.

All three were transported to the Spencer Hospital where they were later life-flighted to other hospitals. The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Spencer Fire & Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Royal Fire & Rescue, Spencer Police Department, and Spencer Hospital ambulance.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
