Graveside services for Mrs. Mariel Royer Cole, 81, of Spencer, were held Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Northlawn Memorial Park in Spencer. Rev. Deb Mechler officiated the service.

Mrs. Cole passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at home in Spencer.

Mariel Royer Cole, the daughter of Dr. Herman C. and Minnie Royer Struck, was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Kanawha. Her childhood years were spent in Kahawha, where she received her education, graduating from Kanawha High School. She later attended Upper Iowa College for two years.

Mariel married James O. Berhow, and following their divorce, she married Lewis Cole on Aug. 27, 1966, in Lancaster, Wis. Throughout her life, Mariel worked in various offices doing secretariel work. She was a Lutheran by faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis; and an infant sister.

Mariel is survived by a son, James Berhow of Spencer; a stepson, Stephen Cole and his wife, Cynthia of Grand Junction, Colo.; two stepdaughters: Cynthia Zmolek and her husband, Douglas of Johnston, and Verna Leah and her husband, David Shoemaker of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two sisters: Margaret Larson of Kanawha, and Virginia Hansen of Pearle, Ariz.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
