Funeral services for Mr. Mark Anderson, 58, of Spencer will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. William Schrieber will officiate the service.

Visitation was at noon Thursday, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

A Catholic Vigil service was held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mr. Anderson passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009.

Mark Walter Anderson, the son of James and Hazel Conner Anderson, was born April 18, 1951, in Guthrie Center. His childhood years were spent near Guthrie Center, where he received his early education in a one-room country school and later through eighth grade at Guthrie Center school. His family then moved to Casey, where he graduated from Adair-Casey High School. Mark was the first track runner for Adair-Casey High School to run the two-mile run in track meets. He was also an active 4-H member, showing cattle and receiving several purple ribbons.

Mark married Sue Peterson on Dec. 12, 1975, in Ames. Following their marriage, they lived in the Spencer area where they raised their two sons: Jarrod and Tony. Mark was an active member in the Spencer community, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Promise Keepers. He was also a member of AA since the mid 1980s, blood donor for the Red Cross, and a bone marrow donor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Hazel Anderson; his sister, Camilla Booe and Mary Ann Anderson.

Mark is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Sue of Spencer; two sons: Jarrod and his fiancee, Anne Peters of Yankton, S.D., and Tony of Harrisburg, S.D.; two brothers: Leo Anderson and wife, Sue, and David Anderson and wife, Barb; four sisters: Melinda Marten and husband, Martin, Julia Anderson, Kathryn Anderson, and Teresa Anderson; his mother-in-law, Helen Peterson; sister-in-law, Julie Spear and husband, Jim; and brother-in-law, Larry Peterson and wife, Kathy.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
