Funeral services for Duen Lovan, 85, of Spencer, were held Monday, August 17, 2009, ,at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. The Rev. Chuck Kellogg officiated. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Duen passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Thursday, August 13, 2009.

Duen Lovan the daughter of Yon and Noe (Lo) Lovan, was born May 12, 1924 in Meutang, North Vietnam. On May 1979, Duen's family left Laos to Nong Khai, Thailand refugee camp for one year and moved to a Phillipine refugee camp in 1980 for one year and in February of 1981, the family arrived in the U.S., settling in Spencer, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one great grandson.

Duen is survived by 6 children, four daughters and two sons: Son Kan Lovan in Vietnam; daughter, La Lothi in Vietnam, daughter, Than Lovan and her husband, Joe Lovan of Spencer, daughter, Thin Lovan of Spencer, daughter, Phoung Lovan and her husband, Heup Lovan of Spencer, son, Lou Lovan and his wife, Veuy Lovan of Spencer; her grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren: and one younger brother, E. Lovan.
