Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Samaniego, 78, of Hartley were held Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hartley. Rev. Tim Hogan officiated the service.

Military memorial services were held at the Veteran's Memorial east of the Community Center in Hartley.

Mr. Samaniego passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Sioux City.

Bobby was born in Rincon, N.M., to Paul and Angie Samaniego on May 12, 1931. He grew up in Las Cruces, N.M. He joined the National Guard and served during the Korean War along side his dad. After serving his country he attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Louise Crespin. They were married 55 years.

He won the Golden Gloves Boxing light heavy weight title in California in 1951. He was active as a Boy Scout Leader with his sons, coached Little League, and continued to coach Golden Glove boxers. In his forties he played semi-pro hardball in Washington State and finished his sports career playing softball into his 60s in Hemet, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Angie; and his brother-in-law, Del Boltz

Bobby is survived by wife, Mary Louise of Hartley; sons: Paul Jeffrey and Rene Richard; one daughter, Lori Ann Scroggin and husband, Doug; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Margaret Samaniego Boltz.

Warner Funeral Home of Hartley is in charge of arrangements.
