Services for Mrs. Evon "Cookie" Loontjer, 66, of Spencer, formerly of Milford, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at New Life Worship Center in Spencer. Rev. Tracy Bough will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5-8 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Interment will take place at Milford Cemetery in Milford.

Mrs. Loontjer passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at home.

Evon "Cookie" Marie Loontjer, the daughter of Ewan and Ceceile (Birchard) Watrous, was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Spencer. Her childhood years were spent in Milford where she attended school and graduated from Milford High School. She then attended Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, Neb.

On June 23, 1963, Evon was united in marriage to Ron Loontjer in Omaha. They were married for 23 years. During her life, Evon lived in Council Bluffs and Milford before moving to Spencer in 1986. She was currently working as an administrative assistant for Iowa Workforce Development in Spencer.

Evon was a member of New Life Worship Center in Spencer.

the years she had fostered many children whom she considered to be a part of her own family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Karla Lind.

Evon is survived by her children: Joanie Houti and husband, Tarik of Spencer, Becky Allen and husband, Scott of Spirit Lake, Mel Loontjer of Sioux Rapids, and Mike Loontjer and Ron Loontjer -- both of Council Bluffs; her former husband, Ronald Loontjer of Hebron, Neb.; step-parents, Mick and Karleen Noteboom of Milford; 10 grandchildren; foster children: Janet Laubenthal and Tony Roth of Fort Pierre, S.D., Tina Dowdy and husband, Aaron of Spencer, Janine Debates and husband, Bill of Luverne, Minn., and Jennifer Umbreit and husband, Randy of Laurens; and one brother, Mick Noteboom, Jr. of Champaign, Ill.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
