Betty Ann Vaughn, 86, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, after a long illness.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 944 East Gorham Street, Madison, Wis., in late August. Details regarding the memorial service will be determined at a later date.

Betty was born in Spencer on June 20, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Blanche (Hatfield). Betty attended Iowa State University, obtained her bachelors degree at U of Iowa and masters at UW Madison.

While attending college, she met

Charles William Vaughn, they united into marriage on Feb. 4, 1947. Betty and Charles made Madison their home in 1947 and raised two sons. They were members of Christ Presbyterian Church, the Madison Club and Maple Bluff Country Club.

She was Cub Scout Den Mother when her boys were young. She volunteered for

United Way, YWCA and Attic Angel, and served as president of Attic Angel

Association. Betty was the first woman Alumni Representative on the

UW-Madison Athletic Board, President of the Alumni Association, Co-founder

of the WIS Club, President of the Jaycettes, Chairman of Civics Club,

President of Madison Symphony Orchestra League and a strong supporter of

Olbrich, University Foundation, Hospice and many other organizations.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles.

Betty is survived by two sons: Charles W. Vaughn Jr. of Fairfield, and Steven Erickson Vaughn and wife, Kristine of Stoughton, Wis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or to Christ

Presbyterian Church.

Gunderson East Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
