Memorial services for Phyllis Sheridan, 92, of Webb, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Liberty Cemetery in Greenville. Rev. Tonna Parsons will officiate the service.
Visitation will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, prior to the graveside service.
Phyllis passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.
Jean Phyllis Sheridan, daughter of John and Jean Turner Sheridan, was born on July 24, 1916 at the home of her parents near Webb. Jean Phyllis was known as Phyllis as a young child and is known as Phyllis by her family and friends. Phyllis received her early education in Webb and graduated from Webb High School in 1933. Phyllis went on to further her education at Buena Vista College for two years and then received her Bachelors Degree with a major in Education from the University of Northern Iowa.
After receiving her degree Phyllis went on to teach grade school, junior high and high school in Ayrshire and Royal. Later she took a teaching job in the small town of Oakville in south eastern Iowa where she met her future husband Max Erwin Sheridan.
On Sept. 6, 1947 Phyllis and Max were married in Muscatine. Following their marriage the couple lived in Burlington, where they had two children, Susan Ann and John David. During that time Phyllis taught elementary education and junior high school. In 1970 Max and Phyllis moved back to the family farm in Webb. Phyllis served many years on the Webb Library board.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Max; her daughter, Susan; her parents; and her infant brother, Philip.
Phyllis is survived by her son, John Sheridan and his wife, Carolyn of Greenville; and three grandchildren.
