Saunders allowed just four hits and one earned run over five innings, striking out three. Freshman Nick Wittmaack worked a hitless sixth inning.
Sioux Central used six hits to plate its eight runs in what proved to be the final inning. The Rebels saw four different players come up with multiple hits, including Stu Goslinga, who belted his 10th home run of the season in the first inning.
Goslinga finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Center fielder Trevor Tiefenthaler sparked Sioux Central's big rally, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. He added two runs and two stolen bases.
Cody Archer and Adam Ehlers had two hits apiece. Six different players added one RBI for the Rebels, including Austin Buchholz, who plated one run with a double in his only at bat.
Sioux Central finished with 12 hits in all, including three for extra bases. The Rebels swiped five bases.
