LaDean Roland, 69, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 18, 2009, at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven. Rev. Roger Maize officiated the 11 a.m. service. Burial was at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.
LaDean Wesley Roland, the son of Glendon and Violet (Harris) Roland, was born June 12, 1939, in Emmetsburg. He received his education in the Ruthven school system and served in the U.S. Navy.
On Dec. 12, 1959, he was united in marriage to Sharon Atkinson at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven.
LaDean worked in Pocahontas as a mechanic for 38 years. He also ran the wrecker for the garage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Virginia Roland and Darlene Nissen; and two brothers: Charles and Robert Roland.
LaDean is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Spencer; two children: Tamara Kyte and her husband, Donald, of Spencer, and Daniel Roland of Boone; four sisters: Vivian Fread and her husband, Kenneth, of Ruthven, Betty Cuklanz of Terril, Mary Mingus and her husband, Richard, of Spencer, and Helen Enderson and her husband, Alan, of Spencer; a brother, Donald Roland and his wife, Jean, of Sac City; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
