Graveside services for Leroy Gothaus, 84, of Ida Grove, formerly of Spencer, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Rev. Scott Meier will officiate the service.
There will be no visitation.
Military services will be provided by American Legion Glen Pedersen Post 1 in Spencer.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemtery in Spencer.
Mr. Grothaus passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
LeRoy Harvey Grothaus, the son of Ralph and Clara (Nelson) Grothaus, was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Marcus. His childhood years were spent in Sioux City, where he attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1941.
Following school, LeRoy entered the military and served with the Army for two years until his honorable discharge in 1945. He then worked at different jobs in Sioux City, Indiana, and southern Illinois, before he moved to Spencer in 1957.
LeRoy opened Spencer Radiator and Lawn Mowing Corners in 1957 and remained the owner and operator until his retirement in 1995.
On Jan. 27, 1985, LeRoy was united in marriage to Nancy Ham in Cherokee. They made their home in Spencer until they recently moved to Ida Grove.
LeRoy was a past member of the Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Beth Elizabeth Falline.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Nancy Grothaus of Ida Grove; one stepson, Dan Burkhart and wife, Nancy; and three stepgrandchildren.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
