Wittmaack wins four titles, Tiefenthaler takes three plus record
Sioux Central returned to the top of the Northwest Conference in boys track and field Monday, winning eight events to claim its first league championship since 2005.
The Rebels produced 22 medal-winning performances, all told, scoring 141 team points and doubling in five events. Eight athletes earned Northwest Conference titles, six coming in individual events.
Trevor Tiefenthaler won two individual titles, three in all, and set a conference record with a winning time of 22.02 in the 200-meter dash. He also won the 400 in 51.93.
Freshman Nick Wittmaack won four conference titles -- in the 110-meter high hurdles, the 400 hurdles and two relays.
Mike Ripke added a win in the long jump and sophomore Adam Ehlers took the top spot in the high jump.
Sioux Central also produced a pair of relay victories. Scott Patten, Wittmaack, Ripke and Tiefenthaler won the 4x400 in 3:35.57; Wittmaack, Ethan Lindquist, Joel Peterson and Tanner Perrigo won the shuttle hurdle in 1:04.69.
Sioux Central has a pair of regular season meets remaining -- at West Sioux Thursday and at Laurens-Marathon Monday -- before competing in the district meet Friday, May 15 for a trip to the state championships.
