City salaries on council agenda

Saturday, May 2, 2009
Members of the Spencer City Council will consider a 3 percent pay increase for some city employees as part of Monday night's regular meeting.

A finance and personnel committee meeting begins at 5:30 p.m., with the council meeting to follow an hour later at Spencer City Hall.

The pay increase would apply to full-time employees who are not part of the bargaining unit for city employees. The list includes non-management, management as well as the city manager's position.

The percentage increase does not include longevity increases in the salary matrix, but is consistent with the collective bargaining unit agreement that was approved in April 2007, according to a memo from Spencer City Manager Bob Fagen.

The resolution also incorporates previously approved amendments and updates to the personnel manual.

Several agenda items continue to address the bidding process and work to establish the Green Industrial Center near Cardinal Field and Spencer's water treatment plant on the east side of town.

In other discussion, council members will consider an ordinance amending the City Code pertaining to planting, trimming, spraying, permits; and the location of tree plantings.

The public will have the chance to comment about the preliminary assessment schedule for upgrades to Deerfield Park 3rd Addition, West Sixth Street and Ninth Avenue East as well.

The council also will be asked to end a recycling contract with Complete Recovery. City staff members have found an alternative vender in Cherokee who will accept the recycling material and cardboard at no charge. The city's only expense, pending council approval, would be labor and fuel costs for the transport to Cherokee.
