The winner will reign over the Clay County Fair Sept. 12-20 and will compete for the State Fair Queen title in Des Moines in August. She will also participate in various celebrations throughout the summer. A first runner-up will be named in the event the queen cannot complete her duties.

Candidates will be judged on personality, attitude and awareness, leadership and citizenship, contribution to the community, overall appearance, charm, poise and self-expression. Each will receive a Mark gift package from Avon, Fair Queen t-shirt from Relativity Tees, Ruthven, a Clay County Fair bag from Weaver's, Algona, a glass nail file from World's Away, Arnolds Park, a scented candle from Burning Desire, West Des Moines, along with at $500 scholarship for full-time students and a $250 scholarship for part-time students to Iowa Lakes Community College.
The 2009 Clay County Fair Queen will receive $1,000 cash from Community Bank and Insurance, Spencer; a sterling silver, genuine yellow topaz and diamond cuff bracelet from Avon; personal care session throughout her reign from Design Masters, Spencer; personal photo session from Quattlebaum Photography, Spencer; a pearl necklace from Nelson Jewelry, Spencer; two grandstand tickets to the shows of her choice at the 2009 Clay County Fair; transportation money for the State Fair Queen Contest from H&N Chevrolet-Buick Co., Spencer; complimentary teeth whitening trays from Dr. Bill Phelps, Spencer; a gift certificate to The Hen House, Spencer; a three-month membership to the Athletic Enhancement and Adult Wellness Center at the Spencer Municipal Hospital, Spencer; a $200 savings bond from Iowa Lakes Electric Coop, Estherville; and a dozen long stem roses from HyVee, Spencer.
The first runner-up will receive $500 cash from Community Bank and Insurance, Spencer, and diamond earrings from Avon.
