The good news: The National Weather Service canceled a winter storm watch for the region at 4 p.m. Friday.

The bad news: They put a blizzard watch in its place. The watch will become a warning barring changes late Friday.

A mix of rain and snow were expected to develop late Saturday morning, then become all snow by Saturday evening. Snowfall amounts of 12 to 15 inches were possible, according to projections for Spencer at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

"On top of this heavy snow, northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph will be possible," a statement from the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls said. "The most dangerous part of this winter storm should occur Saturday night into Sunday morning."

It's the third time this season that the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the Spencer area.

Winds carried a pair of six-inch snowfalls and created blizzard conditions on the weekend of Dec. 20-21. Spencer saw another schedule-canceling white-out on Jan. 12.
