School resource officer on council agenda

Saturday, April 4, 2009
Spencer City Council members will consider a plan to sustain the local school resource officer program as part of its meeting Monday night.

The request, from Spencer Police Chief Mark Lawson, is on the agenda for the council's regular meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Spencer City Hall. A finance and personnel meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

Lawson wants council members to authorize a grant application that would provide three years of funding for a resource officer at the Spencer schools. The cost of the program's fourth year would be shared evenly between the city and the school district.

Council members also are expected to set public hearings as the bidding process for the Green Industrial Center sewer and water extension project begins.

City staff is recommending a 6:30 p.m. hearing on April 20 to gather input on plans and specifications of the project. The bid-letting date would be April 29, pending council approval.

The council will also consider proposals for Deerfield Park Third Addition and Brant's First Addition.

The purchase of five lift station standby generator sets from Ziegler Power Systems of Altoona for $110,697 is also on the agenda.
