Furneral services for Mrs. Shirley Nuzum, 69 of Spencer will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 25 in Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Bancroft.

A lunch will be served immediately following the services at the VFW hall in Spencer. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Shirley passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Shirley Kay Nuzum, the daughter of Ralph and Edith (Simmons) Johnson, was born on April 5, 1939 in Spencer. Her childhood years were spent here where she also attended school. Following high school, Shirley married Burdette Ahrens. To this union one son, Ken was born.

On Jan. 10, 1966, Shirley married Leo Nuzum in Dakota City, Neb. Throughout their marriage, they made their home in the Spencer community. Shirley's brother Duke also lived with them for the last 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her son, Ken; three brothers: John, Louie and Ralph; and one nephew, Ronnie Wayne.

Shirley is survived by her brother, Duke Johnson of Spencer; two granddaughters; her daughter-in-law, Patty Ahrens of Spencer; and a very good friend, Jim Johnson of Spencer.

Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
