Services for Jeffrey W. Johnson, 47, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church of Ruthven. Rev. Luther Thoresen will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg.

Jeffrey passed away March 1, 2009, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Jeffrey Wayne Johnson, the son of Wayne "Ole" Johnson and Donna (Sharteved) Johnson was born in Sioux Center, on Sept. 9, 1961. Jeffrey has one sister, Julie Leann Johnson and a niece, Carli Leann Johnson, both of Peyton, Colorado. Jeffrey was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.

Jeffrey graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1980. He was a National Honor Society student. Jeffrey was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, baseball, track and golf. He played on the Class 3A Champion football team. He also played on the 1978 State Baseball team. He was also chosen to pitch for the High School All-Star Team in 1980. Jeffrey was a self-taught golfer and won many tournaments. He attended Des Moines Community College on a baseball scholarship as a pitcher. Later in his life Jeffrey played fast pitch softball for Budweiser in Spencer.

Jeffrey moved to Colorado Springs in 1995 He taught computer classes and helped his sister, Julie with her Tax and Accounting Business; worked as a salesman at Sofa Mart; and was a security officer at Rocky Mountain Greyhound Park and Double Eagle Casino.

On June 2, 2006 Jeffrey married Nikki Williams in Colorado Springs, Colo. He has a step son Elijah Williams and a step grandson Donovyn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Mary Johnson and Emil Sharteved and Dorothy Sharteved; uncles, Gustav Johnson, Harry Hilton and Leonard Johnson; and aunt Seiri Hilton.

Jeffrey is survived by his stepson; step-grandson; parents; his sister; and his niece.Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
