Funeral services for Ethel Binder, 95 of Spencer will be held at 10 a.m., today, Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Scott Meier and Rev. Dan Taylor will officiate the service.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will take place at 4 p.m., Wednesday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, S.D.

Ethel passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 at Spencer Hospital.

Ethel Marie Walker Binder was born on March 8, 1913 near Vienna, S.D. to Severt and Minnie Froke Seim. Ethel was Baptized and Confirmed at Pleasant Lutheran Church near Vienna. Ethel also attended country schools near Vienna, graduating from Vienna High School in 1931.

In 1932 Ethel married Ernest B. Walker at Highmore, S.D. To this union were born three children. The family lived in various cities in South Dakota before being transferred to Miller, S.D. The family lived there for twenty-five years. Ethel worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where Ernest was manager. The family were members of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ethel held various positions in church groups and other organizations. In 1966 after Ernest's retirement, they moved to Watertown, SD where Ethel worked in retail and continued to serve on the Altar Guild and various other offices at Grace Lutheran Church. Ernest passed away in 1975.

Ethel moved to Spencer, in 1982 and married John F. Binder at Grace United Methodist Church. Ethel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, a member of Marion Circle, Joy Group, Federated Woman's Club and the Spencer Area Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Ehtel is survived by one sister, Marjorie Bossen of Watertown, S.D.; two sons: Darwin Walker and wife, Marlenna of Brookings, S.D., and Kentner Walker and wife, Julie Ann of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Janice Orr and husband, Keith of Spencer; one step- daughter-in-law, Ellen Binder of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
