Helen Mary Boese, the daughter of John and Rose (Pfeifer) Trainer, was born July 31, 1917, in Melvin. Helen moved from the family farm during her high school years to attend school in Sibley. While there, she lived and worked for a local family. After high school, Helen attended a small business college where she earned a secretarial degree. Her first job was at the Osceola County Courthouse during the Great Depression. In 1930, Helen moved to the Webb community and was hired as secretary to the president of Citizens State Bank.
Helen married Burdette W. "Buzz" Boese on January 18, 1940. Following their marriage, Burdette enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. When Burdette was ordered overseas, Helen returned to Webb where she resumed employment at the bank. A few years later, she made a career move to the local schools and served three superintendents in both the Webb and South Clay school systems. She retired in 1967. Since July 2008, Helen was an active resident at Riverview Assisted Living at St. Luke's in Spencer.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, William Boese and his wife, Ramona of Milford; her daughter, Marilyn Douglas and her husband, Gregory of Simsbury, Conn.; two grandchildren and their spouses, three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
