Services for Lloyd Enger, 89 of Ruthven, were held Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. Rev. Luther Thoresen officiated the service.

Interment took place at Crownhill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Lloyd passed away Friday, Feb. 13 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Lloyd M. Enger, son of Hans and Agnete (Daarud) Enger, was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in the Emmetsburg School system.

On Nov. 28, 1940, Lloyd was united in marriage to Viola Olesen at the Bethany Lutheran Church parsonage.

Lloyd and Viola began farming near Osgood in 1942, and made their home there for six years. They then moved to a farm near Ruthven where they farmed until 1990. At that time they moved into Ruthven.

Lloyd is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven, where he had served on as a Trustee. He was a past member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg and Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Lloyd was also a member of the Ruthven Elevator Coop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy; a daughter, JoAnn Hanson; five brothers; three sisters; and three infant grandchildren.

Lloyd is survived by three sons: Vern Enger of Emmetsburg, Gene Enger and his wife, Judy of Emmetsburg, and David Root and his wife, Sidra of Webster City; son-in-law, Merl Hanson of Graettinger; daughter-in-law, Eloise Enger of Laurens; 16 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Gladys McBreen of Heron Lake, Minn., and Arlene l Flynn of Emmetsburg.

Martin-Mattice Funeral Home of Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.
