Funeral services for Mr. Darrell King, 90 of Spencer, formerly of Dickens and Gillett Grove, will be held at 10 a.m., today, Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at First Congregational Church in Spencer. Rev. Thomas Van Tassell will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Dickens Cemetery in Dickens.

Darrell passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Darrell Ray King, the son of Silas and Grace Bailey King, was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Dickens. He received his early education and graduated from the Dickens High School.

In 1942, Darrell married Lurvene Darr from Ayshire. Following their marriage, they rented land south of Dickens and then north of Everly before purchasing what remains the family farm north of Gillett Grove. On April 15, 1979, Darrell married Eleanor Stoddard, the following year he retired from farming.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Lurvene.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Spencer; his two sons: Wayne King and his wife, Louise and family of Oxnard, Calif., and Wendell King and his wife, Diane and family of rural Dickens; sister, Lois Gritten; and brother, Floyd King.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
