Services for Mr. Kenneth Steffens, 83 of Sutherland will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at United Methodist Church of Sutherland. Rev. Jud Stover will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland.

After a fight with cancer, Kenneth entered the Sutherland Care Center on Jan. 31, 2009, where he passed away on Feb. 12, 2009.

Kenneth Clarence Steffens, the son of Clarence and Emma Steuck Steffens, was born May 23, 1925, on the family farm in Center Township of O'Brien County, rural Primghar. He was baptized in the rural Lutheran Church near his birthplace, which the Church was later moved into Primghar, where he was later confirmed. He received his education in rural schools in O'Brien County. After his schooling he went into farming for Harry Thiessen in rural Sutherland. Kenneth was called into the Army where he served his country being honorably discharged in 1952. He was still active in farming.

He was a member of the Sutherland American Legion and the Sutherland Ruritan Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alvin; and a sister, Leona.

Kenneth is survived by four sisters: Louise Vogt and husband, Oliver of Spencer, Arlene Sampson of Hartley, and Velma Williams and Shirley Schelick -- both of Waterloo; one brother, LeRoy Steffens of Hartley; and one sister-in-law, Sally Steffens of Cleghorn.

Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland is in charge of arrangements.
