Funeral services for Donald Odendahl, 87, of Spencer and formerly of Carroll, will be held today, Wednesday, Feb. 11, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Rev. Timothy Schott will officiate the 2 p.m. service. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Mr. Odendahl passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Donald Franklin Odendahl, the son of Albert and Emma (Weiland) Odendahl, was born Jan. 9, 1922 in Carroll. His childhood years were spent in Carroll, where he received his education at Carroll Schools.
Don married Kathryn Meyers on Feb. 21, 1944 in Willey. Following their marriage, they lived in Carroll, where he was a self-employed agent for Sinclair Oil Company for 18 years and then went to work for Uptown Sporting Goods in Carroll until his retirement in 1984. They remained in Carroll following his retirement and later moved to Spencer, in 1994, where they made their home.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer and the Knights Of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Schulter; three brothers: George, Ed, and Arnold Odendahl; one son, James Odendahl; and one sister, Marie Odendahl.
Donald is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Spencer; two sons: Donald Odendahl and wife, Sherry of Wichita, Kansas, and Robert Odendahl and wife, Kathy of Perham, Minn.; one daughter, Donna Mohr and wife, Fred of Kingsville, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Liz Odendahl of Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Odendahl and wife, Erna of Manning.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
