Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Goecke, 98 of Spencer will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Brent Lingle will officiate the service.

The family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m., tonight, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

A Catholic Vigil service will be held at 5:30 p.m., tonight, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Interment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery in Estherville at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, following the lunch at the church.

Agnes passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at home in Spencer.

Agnes Ellen Goecke, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Walz Goecke, was born Sept. 19, 1910 in Estherville. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, where she received her education, graduating from Estherville High School. She later attended and graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls.

Agnes began her teaching career in Rodman, and later Buffalo Center, until moving to Spencer in 1949. She taught elementary school for 44 years, many of it at Spencer Community School, until her retirement in 1975. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, where she was a member of the BPW. She was also a past member of the AAUW.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Arnold, Leonard, Raymond, Melvin and Harold; and two sisters: Alvina Goecke and Martha McDonald.

Agnes is survived by her brother, Vernon Goecke and his wife, Mary Jo Goecke of Estherville.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
