Funeral services for Lavinia E. Brobst, 92 of Graettinger will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Rev. Barbara Jewell will officiate the service.

Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m., tonight at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Graettinger.

Interment will take place at St. Paul's of South Walnut Cemetery in Graettinger.

Lavinia passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

Lavinia E. (Olesen) Brobst, the daughter of "Ole" Christian Olesen and Christina (Hendrickson) Olesen was born on Dec. 19,1916, on a farm just a few miles south and west of Graettinger.

On March 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to George A. Brobst in Graettinger. She worked alongside George for the first six years of their marriage as a hired hand on farms in northwest Iowa, using the skills and work ethic she learned while growing up on the farm and working in the "Café" in downtown Graettinger. For extra income she also worked cleaning homes, washing and ironing clothes, and working in the dry cleaners in Spencer.

Lavinia was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger and enjoyed spending time with the quilting ladies and the Eve circle/study group.

She was proceeded in death by one son, Lawrenc- one daughter, Janice; one granddaughter, Dee Anne (Helmich) Rezac; one great granddaughter, Amber (Neppl) Carter; her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Lavinia is survived by two sons: Dan Brobst and wife, Carol of Hudson, and Gail Brobst and wife, Julie of Holton, Kansas; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Viola Enger of Ruthven, Vivian Larson of California, and Lillian Lammers of Graettinger; and one brother, Orville of California.
