Visitation will lbegin at 5 p.m., Wednesday, with the family present from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Hartley.
Interment will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
Lyle passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Hope Hospice House Cape Coral at Cape Coral.
Lyle LeRoy Shinkle, the son of John L. and Mavis Clark Shinkle, was born June 7, 1913 on a farm 6 miles south of Hartley. His childhood years were spent near Hartley, where he received his education, graduating from Hartley High School in 1931. He went into the insurance business shortly after his graduation.
Lyle married Ruth Staines on March 21, 1937 at the farm home of Dora and Ray Staines. They continued to live in Hartley, where they raised their family. For 40 years, Lyle owned his own insurance and real estate business, until his retirement in 1969. He also served as City Clerk for the city of Hartley for 30 years. Lyle was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley, where was involved with the Methodist Men and served on several church boards. He was a member of the Strato Flying Club and at one time was the manager of the Hartley Airport. He was also active in the Hartley community, and was a charter member of the Hartley Industrial Commission, developed lots in N.E. Hartley, where seven new homes and an apartment house were later built. He was also a zoning officer, president of Meals on Wheels for many years and gave much time and effort to this cause.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; two sisters: Eileen Lombard and Ardis Ling; and two brothers: Don and Thane Shinkle.
Lyle is survived by his two sons: Dan Shinkle and wife, Janet of Milford, and Roger Shinkle and wife, Roxanne of Grapevine, Texas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Reva Riley of Venice, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Shinkle of Grants Pass, Ore.
