Maude Erickson, 93, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., formerly of Spencer, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at Woodlyn Heights Health Care Center in Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Paul Hansen will officiate the 11 a.m. service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Maude Ellen Erickson, the daughter of Ralph and Cora Petrich, was born Sept. 20, 1915 in Sanborn. She attended country school and was recognized for scholarship and citizenship, graduating in 1933. After graduation, she attended the Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley from 1933 to 1935, graduating with a teaching certificate. She returned to Iowa, teaching school in Osceola and O'Brien counties for nine years. Then, she was assistant superintendent of schools in Primghar.

In 1944, Maude traveled to Cheyenne, Wyo. and worked for the International Harvester Co. as an office manager in the dealer relations department.

She married Alf Harold Erickson on Oct. 25, 1947 in Scottsbluff, Neb., where he had taken a job with an International Harvester dealership. The couple lived in Scottsbluff, and his son, Jon Erickson, joined them for his high school years. The Ericksons moved to Spencer in 1952, where he served as the office manager at the Ford dealership.

Living in Spencer for 47 years, Maude was active in the Republican party, PTA, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and Grace United Methodist Church, where she taught Christian education to children and adults.

Mrs. Erickson was preceded in death by her husband, Alf, her two brothers, her stepson, Jon Erickson, and his wife, Elizabeth.

Maude Ellen Erickson is survived by her son, Scott, and his wife, Mary Beth, of Apple Valley, Minn.; her three grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
