Helen Gertrude Mohni, 85, a resident of Keystone Cedars Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Perry Fruhling and Rev. Alfred Kaupins.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside services will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.

A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly by Rev. Lauren Ley.

Helen was born July 16, 1923, the daughter of Fredrick and Gertrude (Krahling) Just in Nobles County, Minn. She lived her childhood years in the Westbrook, Marshall, and Wilmont areas. Helen graduated from Fulda High School in Fulda, Minn., and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught country school near Hartley after graduation.

Helen was united in marriage to Oscar Mohni on June 15, 1945. They made their home near Everly, farmed, and fed cattle. Helen also worked different jobs outside the home and devoted much of her time to the family. In 1969, they moved to Everly, where Helen and Oscar resided until 1993, when they moved to Spencer. Oscar passed away in March of 1994. Helen then moved to Cedar Rapids to be near family.

She was a devoted member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, and Hope Lutheran Church, Everly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers: Fritz and Lawrence Just; and two sisters: Ella Mohni and Mabel Beckman.

Helen is survived by her two sons: Dennis Mohni and his wife, Jeanie of Summerset, S.D., two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; her son, Jim Mohni and his wife, Nancy Metier live in Cedar Rapids; and daughters: Audrey and Anna.

Warner Funeral Home in Everly is also assisting the family.
