* Carlos Morales, 31, Spencer, was charged with failure to have a valid driver's license and no proof of insurance at 6:26 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of Highway 71. He was released on bond.
* Michele Renee Huls, 31, Sioux Rapids was charged with third-degree theft at 3:59 p.m. Monday at Wal-Mart. She was transported to the Spencer Police Department and released on police citation.
* Adam Quail, 21, Spencer, was charged with supplying alcohol to minors and a 15-year-old Spencer male and 15-year-old Spencer female were charged with possession alcohol under legal age. They were released to their parents. Preston Paulsen, 18, Spencer, and Ronnie Roebes, 19, Spencer, were released on police citations for alcohol possession. They were arrested at 1:11 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of East 11th Street.
* Brent Mileham, 33, Spencer, was taken in on a Dickinson County warrant for fourth-degree theft at 3:46 a.m. Saturday. He was transported to the Clay County Jail and turned over to Clay County Jailer.
* Jiri Strejl, 30, Spencer, was arrested for operating while intoxicated at 1:05 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of West 14th Street. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and placed in Clay County Jail.
* Philip Oviatt, 25, Spencer was arrested for operating while intoxicated at 1:31 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Fourth Avenue West and West 14th Street. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and placed in the Clay County Jail.
* Jose Vides Figueroa, 21, Spencer, was arrested for operating while intoxicated at 11:38 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, in the 500 block of 11th Street Southwest. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and placed in Clay County Jail.
* Misty Slawson, 30, Spencer, was arrested for assault on a peace officer at 2:38 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1. She was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and placed in Clay County Jail.
* Adam Spooner, 30, Sioux Rapids, was charged with operating while intoxicated at 1:10 a.m. Thursday, in the 2000 block of Highway Boulevard. Dawn Sassman, 23, Rembrandt, was arrested at the scene for public
intoxication and interference with official acts. They were transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and placed in Clay County Jail.
* A 14-year-old Spencer female, a 15-year-old Spencer female, a 16-year-old Spencer female, 18-year-old Dillan Magnussen of Albert City, and 19-year-old Chad Sorenson of Dickens were charged with possession alcohol under the legal age at 11:47 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of West Park Street. The juveniles were released to parents and adults were released on police citations.
* Florencio Trujillo, 35, Spencer, was charged with public intoxication at 6:58 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, in the 1400 block of South Grand Plaza Drive. He was transported to the Spencer Police Department, processed and placed in Clay County Jail.
* Lanny J. Allen, 22, May City, was charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated after a deputy responded to a vehicle that went into a ditch at 11:24 p.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of county blacktop M38. He was held in jail to appear before a magistrate.
* James Storey, 38, Spencer, was charged with operating while intoxicated at 2:48 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, in the 2600 block of county blacktop B24. A Clay County deputy checked on suspicious activity involving a vehicle that had pulled into a residence in the 1600 block of 350th Street. The deputy then followed fresh footprints in the snow and located Storey lying on the ground in the pasture. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Clay County Jail without incident.
* Ann Marie Schmidt, 38, Spencer, was taken in on an arrest warrant for fifth-degree theft at 5:56 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, in the 2500 block of 300th Street. She was later released on $500 cash only bond.
* Ryan Joseph Sassman of Gillett Grove was arrested for second-offense operating while intoxicated following a single-car crash at 5:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, on county blacktop M54, about two miles south of Gillett Grove. The 1997 Chevrolet, owned by Darla Loehr of Alta, sustained $2,500 damage after Sassman said he lost control on a frosty road. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled onto its top. Sassman was placed in Clay County Jail.
* A Christmas Eve traffic stop in Spencer by a Clay County Deputy landed two Hartley men in the Clay County Jail. At approximately 4:06 p.m. a Clay County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon investigation, it was found that the driver, Anthony Knapp, 23, of Hartley, had a suspended drivers license. Knapp was then placed under arrest. Upon further investigation, it was found that rear driver side passenger, Mark Knapp, 30, of Hartley, had a warrant for his arrest out of O'Brien County on an original charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief. The warrant was confirmed and Mark Knapp was then placed under arrest. They were transported to the jail without incident. Upon arrival to the jail, Anthony Knapp was turned over to the jailer to be booked in. He was charged with driving under suspension, a simple misdemeanor. Mark Knapp was unable to post the $511 cash bond and was then transported to the Clay/ O'Brien County line where he was turned over to the O'Brien County Sheriff's Office. The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department.
* James Smith, 28, Emmetsburg, was charged with fifth-degree theft on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Clay County Jail. He was held to appear before a magistrate.
* Deputies took Traci Hintz, 42, Spirit Lake, into custody on a warrant to serve two days in jail. She was held to comply with the warrant.
* A Clay County Deputy while on patrol in Royal noticed a red Chevy Blazer on Main Street at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. The deputy knew that the driver, William Smith, did not have a valid drivers license. At that time the deputy attempted to stop Smith on Main Street. The vehicle did not stop and continued down Main St and onto Fourth where Smith then drove up into his yard at 402 Long St and then fled on foot. The deputy was then able to catch Smith in the next yard over and placed him into custody with out further incident. He was charged with attempt to elude, driving while his license was suspended and no insurance. He was held to appear before a magistrate.
* A Clay County Deputy initiated a traffic stop at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, with prior knowledge that Tasha Sidles, 21, Estherville, had a revoked drivers license for an operating while intoxicated test failure. The deputy placed Sidles under arrest for driving while revoked, a serious misdemeanor, driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and operating a non-registered vehicle, all simple misdemeanors.
* Brandon Danielson, 33, Everly, was taken in on an arrest warrant for third-degree theft at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, in the 100 block of North Main Street in Everly. He was taken to Clay County Jail without incident and released on bond.
* Following a traffic stop at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, deputies determined Ronaldo Vicente-Vicente, 21, Sioux Rapids, didn't have a valid drivers license. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail without incident.
ACCIDENTS
* The driver involved in a single-car crash 1/2 mile east of Royal escaped injury after being trapped inside his vehicle. Reuben Ralph Tichy, was traveling west on county blacktop B40 when he told deputies his 2007 Chevrolet Colorado slid on icy conditions. The back end of the truck slid around and the vehicle went into the south ditch backward. The truck then rolled over onto its top. The driver was uninjuried, but trapped inside the vehicle due to a snow drift. Royal Fire and Rescue, and Spencer Hospital Ambulance assisted at the scene. Damage is estimated at $10,000. The mishap took place at 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
* Kaitlynn Newcomb, 21, Spirit Lake, was traveling north on Highway 71 when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy roads at 3:38 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26 in the 2800 block of Highway 71. The vehicle entered the median and then struck a yield sign at a crossing point near the median.
* Skyler Rice, 16, Sioux Rapids, was southbound at 12:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, on Highway 71 when he hit a patch of black ice on the roadway. The 1995 Ford Ranger he was driving skidded off of the road and into the ditch. The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest on the drivers side. Damage is estimated at $2,000.
* A 1999 Chrysler Concorde driven by Gregory White, 68, Spencer and a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by Benjamin Jarosz, 19, Modale, were traveling South at 1:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, in the 3700 block of Highway 71. White attempted to make a right turn into the farm drive of 3775 Highway 71. Jarosz noticed the brakelamps and that White was starting to turn. Jarosz tried to slow down and slid due to icy conditions. He then attempted to take his vehile into the west ditch to avoid hitting White but was unable to and slid into the passenger side of the Concorde, which sustained $2,000 damage. The Silverado sustained $1,000 damage.
* Carolyn Borkovec, 46, Ruthven, was traveling west at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in the 2600 block of Highway 18 when her vehicle struck a deer. Her 2004 Jeep Liberty sustained $1,200 damage.
