Edward J. Dorpinghaus, 77, of Coralville passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Rev. Kenneth Kuntz will officiate the service.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville with military graveside rites conducted by the Coralville American Legion and assisted by other local military organizations.
dward was born May 12, 1931 in Coon Rapids,to Hubert J. and Victoria F. (Broich) Dorpinghaus. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1971, retiring in the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, with duty title: Superintendent, Para-Legal Services. He served seven years overseas. Edward married Betti Bollmann on Dec. 8, 1956 in Denver, Colo.
He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service from 1971 until his retirement in 1992; and for 22 years was employed, part time, with Wolf Construction, Inc. as Contract Administrator and Project Estimator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betti in 1997; one brother and one infant sister.
Edward is survived by one son, Mark of Coralville; one daughter, Michelle and two grandchildren of Spencer; and seven brothers and sisters: Jim and his wife, Doris of Turlock, Calif., Margaret Meis and her husband, Bob of Surprise, Ariz., Mel and his wife, Mary of Maumelle, Ark., Leon and his wife, Bernita and Mary Heisterkamp and her husband, Ed -- all of Coon Rapids, Judy of Ogden, and Carol Kirby and her husband, John of Carroll.
