Funeral services for Elmer Heeren, 78, of Spencer, formerly of Sheldon, will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. The Revs. Terry Simm and Clint Loveland will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will be at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Mr. Elmer Heeren passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at Spencer Hospital in Spencer.

Elmer was born in Little Rock, son of Eltjo and Henrietta (Buss) Heeren. Elmer served in the Army from January, 1951 thru January 1953 during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army, he was united in marriage to Myrna Onken on Sept. 22, 1955 in Sibley. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. The couple moved to Sheldon, Iowa where he worked in construction and later started United Marble Incorporated, which the couple ran until 1982. The couple later moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he worked for Bell Helicopter and was an elder in the St. Phillip Presbyterian Church. The couple retired in 1996 and decided to travel full time, and in 2000 they moved to Spencer.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Myrna Heeren; children: Curt Heeren, and Doug Heeren and wife, Tricia; brother, Ben Heeren and wife, Fern; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
