Funeral services for Larene Mae Selk, 84 of Sutherland were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at United Methodist Church in Sutherland. Rev. Jud Stover officiated the service.
Interment took place at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland.
Larene passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland.
Larene Mae Selk, the daughter of Emiel and Helena (Urban) Dau, was born on May 20, 1924, in Sutherland. She was baptized on Jan. 21, 1925, in Calumet. Larene grew up in Sutherland where she received her education and graduating from Sutherland High School in 1941.
On Nov. 25, 1943, Larene married Howard Selk in Sutherland at the Methodist parsonage. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Sutherland area for 31 years. Larene was homemaker and enjoyed helping Howard on the farm. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2003; and her son, Michael who passed away when he was 5.
Larene is surived by sisters-in-law: Helen Pluth and her husband, Al of Victorville, Calif., Arlene Selk of Aurora, Colo., and Helen Selk of Sutherland.
Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Iowa or the American Lung Association.
Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland is in charge of arrangements.
