Kenneth George Johns
Funeral services for Kenneth George Johns, 85 will be held at 1:30 p.m., following a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m., today, Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church of Sibley. Rev. Terry Simm will officiate the service.
Kenneth passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at Country View Manor.
Kenneth George Johns was born on Nov. 27, 1923, in Sibley. He was the son of Harvey B. and Katie (Kruger) Johns. He lived his youth in Sibley and Allendorf, where he attended school and graduated from Sibley High School.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Irene Pearson of Allendorf, on Aug. 13, 1945, in Worthington, Minn. They lived in Lake Benton, Minn., and then moved to Sibley where Kenneth worked for Mauch Service Station, drove a school bus for 19 years, and worked for Midwest Breeders for many years. In 1978, they moved to Spencer, where Kenneth worked at Eaton Manufacturing as a machinist. He retired from Eaton in the spring of 1988.
In October of 2008, they moved back to Sibley. In December, Kenneth became a resident at the Country View Manor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Johns; and one brother, Duane Johns.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Sibley; his children: Marcia and Robert Zylstra of Spirit Lake, Randy and Kimberly Johns of Roland, Cynthia and David Baker of Waukee, and Carol and Randy Rockman of Rushmore, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Marlys Fischer and her husband, Johnny of Owatonna, Minn.
