Funeral services for Mrs. Ardis Heien, 79 of Spencer will be held at 2 p.m., today, Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Paul Kaldahl will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Ardis passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 at Spencer Hospital.

Ardis Mae Heien, the daughter of George Raymond and Flossie Alice Nelson Gerking, was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Sloan. Her childhood years were spent in Sloan where she received her education in country schools. Her family later moved to Onawa, where she continued her education, graduating from Onawa High School. Ardis attended a Beauty School in Sioux City, and became a licensed beautician. She moved to Spirit Lake in 1948.

Ardis married John Howard Heien on Oct. 2, 1948, in Jackson, Minn. Following their marriage, she continued her work as a beautician and later worked at Montgomery Wards until her retirement in 1984. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer where she was also a choir member. Ardis was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the VFW.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Dorothy; and son-in-law, Mike Conley.

Ardis is survived by her husband, John of Spencer; one daughter, Denise Conley of Spencer; one son, Marc Heien and his wife, Connie of Spencer; one grandchild; one sister, Audrey Alfredson and her husband, Vernon of Sloan; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Heien of Hartley.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
